Dear Editor,
This morning I left Half Acre on my bike, heading past the Union. A female student, apparently trying to get to class by 9, was riding very fast from the road by Coe Library across to Prexy’s Pasture.
Although I was riding slowly, her bike zoomed at mine and would have been a direct right angle hit had I not managed to brake.
Unfortunately, avoiding her caused major skin damage to one leg as my bike pedal scraped up my right leg.
The student stopped briefly to watch from afar and never came over, though others kindly offered help. Soon she pedaled on her way.
Riding bikes on campus is wonderful for young and old alike. In this situation, had I not braked, I would have been seriously injured because she was traveling at high speed directly towards me.
Bike safety is a significant safety issue on campus. Please slow down!
