Only boring people are bored. Or so they say. Students searching for something to do on a boring Friday night can thank the Campus Activities Center for making their search easier.
Friday Night Fever is back.
The mission of FNF is to provide University of Wyoming students with free, quality entertainment that is diverse in nature, fun, unique and exciting, during prime social times. according the CAC website
“Friday Night Fever started 10 years ago,” Sagan Hunsaker, a Union staff member said. “ It began as an alcohol alternative program.” It still is a safe place for people who do not drink or want to have some fun on Friday night without the influence of alcohol.
Tonight in the Union Family Room, the FNF movie will be “Brave” and then comedian and magician Derek Hughes will take the stage at 9 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Ballroom.
“Brave”, which will not be available for sale on DVD until November, is a Disney Pixar movie about Merida, who “confronts tradition and challenges destiny to change her fate,” according to Disney.
Hughes is a multi-talented entertainer who acts as well. According to his press release, Hughes played ‘Logan’ in the comedy movie “Grownups.” He has also been featured on the NBC series “Late Friday.”
FNF offers a variety of live entertainment from comedians to popular musicians as well as late night laser tag and ice skating for students. In addition, there are three chances to sit back and watch one of the latest popular movies. Past events have included the a capella group Take 6, a condom couture fashion show and UW Idol competitions.
Admission to all FNF events requires a student ID and is free for students. FNF will allow two non-students per ID. That means if there is a family oriented movie or event, students with children can bring them as well. “If I had to guess, I would say on average about 600 to 650 people attend Friday Night Fever events,” Hunsaker said.
The events are paid for with part of the student fees paid at the beginning of each semester, particularly the Union fees, according to CAC website.
FNF meets at 5 p.m. every Wednesday at the Campus Activities Center in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Students interested in taking part in planning or working Friday Night Fever events are welcome to attend.
Friday Night Fever also welcomes the help of recognized student organizations in sponsoring the events. RSOs wishing to be co-sponsors need to submit a proposal at least three weeks before the requested event. Any students who have a request or suggestion for an event can submit their idea to fnf@uwyo.edu.
