“The Dream Factory,” a ski and snowboard film from Teton Gravity Research ,will be shown free of charge from 8-10 p.m. tonight in the Arts and Sciences Auditorium. The screening is sponsored by the Student Activities Council.
“For the past 16 years, Teton Gravity Research has made the pilgrimage to America’s last frontier, Alaska: The Dream Factory,” according to a press release.
The film follows athletes on their journey to Alaska including “awe-inspiring expanse, rich history, and colorful characters.”
Although the majority of the footage was filmed in Alaska, Wyoming’s own Jackson Hole resort also is featured in the film. Though not in “The Dream Factory,” Jackson native, Shroder Baker, has been featured in other TGR films such as “Light the Wick,” and “One for the Road” according the TGR’s website.
A total of 13 athletes are pictured in “The Dream Factory,” including Seth Morrison, who helped make TGR in 1995 with three other friends, according to their website.
The state of Alaska has attracted people from all backgrounds and places. The skiers are no exception, according to TGR’s website.
“Like the frontiersmen before them, the pioneers of the free-ride movement like Doug Coombs, Eric Pehota, and Trevor Petersen made the dream of skiing in Alaska a reality.”
TGR films appeal to a variety of athletic interests, spanning not only snow covered peaks, but surfing in ocean waves. Their videos consist of skiing, snowboarding and surfing. “The Dream Factory” will not only be screened in the U.S. but abroad, including European countries and places in Canada according to the TGR website.
In addition to the showing, there will be booths and prizes from Snowy Range and Steamboat Ski Resorts, according the Wyoming Union Facebook page.
Next week, SAC will cosponsor an event with the Cultural Programs and host Time for Three. This event will be on Friday instead of Wednesday in order to accommodate for the All American Rejects show, according the SAC page.
Sponsors of the film are GoPro, The North Face, Recco, Atomic and The Ski Journal. More information about both The Dream Factory and TGR can be found at www.tetongravity.com.
