Luke Martinez has been a key player for the Cowboys so far this season. He established himself as one of the top scorers in the Mountain West Conference last season and started 31 games for the Cowboys. Now he is UW’s athlete of the week.
This season, he is making even more of an impact. Martinez is 11th in scoring in the MW, with 106 points and a 13.3 points per game average. He also is tied for second in free throw percentage with .913 percent. He is also No. 1 3-point field goals made, with 23 and a 2.88 percentage.
“Basketball is what I love to do. It’s my real passion and it gets me away from reality,” Martinez said.
When he has free time, which he says is very rare, he likes to sleep. But when asked if there was something else besides sleep he would do, he said he loves to watch funny videos on YouTube.
In addition to sleeping and watching YouTube videos, Martinez said he also loves to watch Sportscenter on ESPN.
Martinez is a social science major, but wants to play in the NBA, particularly the Lakers. However, if he cannot, he wants to become a firefighter.
