UW’s outdoor program 2nd place to win $10,000

As of Nov. 14, UW is in the running to win $10,000 for its outdoor program.

Polartec, a sports and active wear fabric company, is running the contest awarded to one college outdoor program.

UW is up against New Paltz, Colgate University and the University of Nebraska. The winner will be determined based on voting conducted on the Polartec Facebook page.

Currently, UW is in 2nd place with 3,404 votes to win $10,000 for the Outdoor Program. However, Colgate University is in first place with 7,505 votes.

Students can vote through Facebook once every day, but in order to vote they must have a Facebook account.

In order to have been eligible as a finalist in the contest, a video was submitted by the Outdoor Program. Then a panelist of judges selected the top four videos to be voted on by the public.

One of the requirements for the video was that it had to be consistent with the contest’s theme to “encourage students to get outside, gain valuable leadership skills and pass along the ethics of environmental stewardship.”

As UW is ranked one of the best outdoor universities in the country by Outside Magazine, it is no surprise the university is one of four finalists for the national award.

“From rock climbing to whitewater rafting to cross-country skiing, UW has something for every outdoor enthusiast,” OP Coordinator Dan McCoy said.

This contest is an easy way to gain money that will benefit our university’s outdoor program.

Voting ends Dec. 14 at midnight and the winner will be announced Dec. 15.
