A recent survey has ranked the University of Wyoming 11th out of the top 100 schools for the best value colleges and universities in the country.
This 22nd annual report, made by the U.S. Research & Evaluation Inc., lists UW as one of “America’s 100 Best College Buys.”
The survey was conducted between April 1 and July 31 of last year and looked at more than 1,000 U.S. colleges and universities.
In order to be considered for the survey, each higher education institution must be an accredited, four-year institution, offer residential halls and dining services, have an entering freshman class in the fall of 2011 with a high school GPA or SAT and ACT score equal to or above the national average. Another requirement was that each school had to have an out-of-state cost of attendance in 2012-2013 for three quarters or two semesters below the national average cost of attendance.
Survey results also expressed that, in 2011, the high school GPA for entering college freshmen in the U.S. was 3.32, the average SAT score was 1094, and the average ACT score was 23.
Survey results showed a national average cost of attendance based upon the regular cost at private institutions and the out-of-state cost at public institutions for 2012-2013 of $35,691.
The survey indicated that UW had average costs far below the national average, with $13,362 for in-state students and $22,512 for out-of-state students in 2012-13.
“One of the main reasons I came to the University of Wyoming was because of its reasonable price, especially for an in-state student like me,” UW freshman Brooke Mason said. “I also chose this school because of its great learning environment. It’s nice that many classes are smaller and the teachers know your name.”
In the past, UW has been ranked among the best values by Forbes magazine. In August of 2012, UW was ranked 11th in their annual best value category of their “America’s Top Colleges” ranking.
Forbes’s Top 100 Best Buy Colleges are calculated by taking the overall quality rank by the school’s tuition and fees. The quality ranking takes into consideration the quality of teaching, post-graduation career rates, the rate of graduation and the levels of debt graduates collect.
In 2011, Forbes ranked UW at number 10 on this same list.
