In 2001, the University of Wyoming’s International Board of Advisors started the IBOA Faculty Award for Internationalization in order to recognize faculty members and students who “demonstrated excellence in promoting internationalization at UW.”

Now nominations for this year’s awards are coming to a close with the Feb. 17 deadline fast approaching.

The award consists of $2,000, a medal and a plaque with the winner’s name on it to be presented during the International Board of Advisors’ annual banquet held in the spring, and then again during the commencement banquet ceremonies.

To be eligible to win this award, those nominated should show their “strong leadership in activities that have improved internationalization at the university,” such as making opportunities available for UW students to study abroad; developing courses offered either on campus at UW, through outreach courses in Wyoming or courses abroad that have an important global focus; promoting opportunities for American students to interact with international students on campus; and significant collaboration with partners outside the U.S. on research, teaching, outreach or service.

Last year’s award winners include faculty member Dr. Peter D. Stahl, International Undergraduate student Ahmed A. Balogun Mohammed, American undergraduate student Amanda King, international graduate student Noor Syamilah Zakaria and American Graduate student Miranda Bryant.

“These awards are important because they recognize an integral part of success for Wyoming faculty, students, and alumni – the ability to work within and understand a global framework,” Director of International Programs, Anne Alexander said. “Finding or bringing that kind of opportunity to UW – professionally, personally, and for the broader campus community – is not easy, but bringing greater international awareness and opportunities is crucial for our community to compete and thrive.”

Alexander stressed that anyone can be nominated. For more information on how to nominate someone and who qualifies for nomination, please visit http://www.uwyo.edu/intprograms/int-awards/.
