Applications have recently opened up for the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders, a three day conference set to take place in Maryland this spring from May 30 until June 1.

The American Association of the University of Women and National Association of Student Personnel Administrators have joined together to put on this conference, giving women leaders an experience that will help them improve their campuses and communities.

This year’s theme for the conference is Leadership for Today and Tomorrow. NCCWSL is the only conference that brings together collegiate women in order to address important modern day issues.

“This is a national conference so with that, the students that are selected represent the university and that itself is a great opportunity. They also get the opportunity to interact with women from all over the nation and just network and get ideas about women leadership and issues related to women,” Helen Alatorre, Assistant Dean of Students for Leadership Development, said. “It’s really about empowering female students.”

The conference will hold a variety of workshops where women will be able to network with almost 600 female student leaders from across the United States and abroad, find their dream graduate program at the Graduate School Fair, and work within pre-conference community service projects.

The conference will give students skills that will serve them in their current leadership roles on campus as well as in future, post-graduation opportunities. Throughout the three days, attendees will gain skills in career and financial planning, technology use, life balance and lifestyle issues, team building and group dynamics, and more.

The University of Wyoming has an undergraduate delegation for this conference every summer. Students are selected based on their interest in improving the learning experience for female students at UW and their involvement with university funders. All expenses will be paid for students selected to participate.

“I believe that anyone can be a leader regardless of position. This is a great opportunity for women to explore that within themselves,” Alatorre said.

Requirements for the conference include attending a few post-conference meetings in the month of April, submitting a 3-5 page summary on their experience at the conference, and taking part in the UW Women’s Leadership Conference in the fall of 2013. Students who do not meet these requirements will be required to pay back the conference’s $395 registration fee.

Applications for the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders are due on March 8 at 5 p.m. Applications are now live at http://www.uwyo.edu/slce/leadership-programs/wl.html.
