Tyler Willis, nationally ranked bull rider who recently competed a the NFR in Las Vegas along with 30 bulls and other riders, will be featured at the ninth annual Mr. T Bull riding event.
Contrary to popular belief, this event has nothing to do with the actor Mr. T. Rather, the bulls bucking in the event are decedents of the famous rodeo bull, Mr. T.
During his career, Mr. T was one of the top bulls in the 1980s circuit and bested Lane Frost in 1985. The Burns family of Laramie has bred bucking bulls using this bloodline and has produced some of the most sought after bloodlines in the industry. These bulls are known for their large frames and athletic ability.
“There is no holding back with these bulls,” Hal Burns, owner of Burns Rodeo Company, said. “It is going to be fast paced, high energy entertainment.”
According to Hal, this event was created with a dual purpose, helping the company and the riders simultaneously. The Burns family benefits from this event as it allows them to gauge the young bulls in regards to their performance and see which bulls show the greatest potential. The animals will potentially buck at larger rodeos this summer.
The competitors will not walk away from this event disappointed either. Aside from the chance of walking away several thousand dollars richer, it is a great venue for riders to advance their careers. The 30 riders for Saturday night are a mix of seasoned riders that have made it to circuit champion or higher and new riders that are just starting out.
It also gives them an opportunity to hone their skills against a young, explosive and unpredictable stock. The rider slots have been in high demand and Burns is currently turning away interested riders because all the available slots are filled.
To keep the audience entertained, respected rodeo clown JW Winklepleck will be putting on a show throughout the event. This rodeo clown has performed at Cheyenne Frontier Days and has never disappointed a crowd when it comes to entertainment.
“This is going to be a clean, fun and family friendly event,” Burns added. “The entertainment value is going to be high and it will be worth the ticket.”
Tickets for this event can be purchased at Martindale’s, Boot Barn, The Boardwalk and C&A Pet and Livestock Supply for $10 or $12 at the door. It will take place at 7 p.m. March 2.
