All-Conference team honors

The Mountain West Conference announced the men’s and women’s all-conference basketball teams Tuesday.

Four Cowgirl basketball players were selected as honorees, while only one Cowboy made the cut. Seniors Chaundra Sewell and Ashley Sickle and sophomores Kayla Woodward and Kaitlyn Mileto were selected from the Cowgirls, while senior Leonard Washington was picked for the Cowboys.

Sewell was the only player from either squad to make the first team all-conference team. Sewell had a very strong final season for the Cowgirls. She led the conference in rebounding with 9.3 rebounds per game and led the team in scoring by averaging 15.1 points per game. Sewell was selected to the Mountain West All-Defensive team as well, according to reports from the Mountain West.

For Sewell, this marks her third all-conference selection. In her sophomore year she was an honorable mention, and she was chosen for the second team all-conference squad as a junior, according to her player card.

Woodward was selected to this season’s second team all-conference squad. She was second in scoring for the Cowgirls, netting an average of 14.1 points per game and led the team with 352 shot attempts in the regular season for a 44 percent field goal percentage. Woodward was selected to the third team all-conference squad her freshman year.Mileto and Sickles were chosen for the third team all-conference lineup. Mileto was the greatest 3-point threat for the Cowgirls all season long. She went 64-154 from behind the arc for a 42% 3-point shooting percentage and averaged 12.4 points per game. Sickles, who was an all-conference honorable mention last season, averaged 11.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in the regular season, according to compiled stats from Wyoming Athletics.

Washington was the only Cowboy to make any of the all-conference squads. He was selected to both the third team and all-defensive team. Washington led the Cowboys in a plethora of categories this season, including scoring and rebounding. He averaged 13.0 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. He also led the team in blocks with 53 on the season. Washington was a second team all-conference selection last season.
