The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team beat the Colorado State Lady Rams 7-0 Saturday in Laramie.
Of nine matches played, the Cowgirls took the point in each. This marked the Cowgirls’ second conference victory this season, which gives them a 2-0 record in the Mountain West Conference and an 8-7 record overall.
Wyoming dominated doubles action to win the first point of the day, according to UW athletics. The UW doubles pair of Alexandra Kovacs and Sasa Nemcova opened with an 8-2 win over Natalie Heffron and Adriana Wojakowska of CSU. The duo was followed by a victory from Jessica Parizher and Silviya Zhelyazkova over Mollie Cooper and Abby Stevens 8-2. During the day’s final doubles match, Veronica Popovici and Simona Synkova earned an 8-3 victory over Kayley Schultz and Kendall Heitzner.
In singles play, which consisted of six matches, the Cowgirls did not let their guard down.
Kovacs and Nemcova gave the Cowgirls a 3-0 lead with their singles victories. Nemcova defeated Wojakowska, 6-2, 6-0, while Kovacs won, 6-2, 6-2, against Schultz. Zhelyazkova secured the match for Wyoming, beating Lauren Pick 6-3, 6-0.
At the number two positions, Synkova needed three sets to beat Heffron, 6-1, 6-7, 6-4.
In the final match of the day, Parizher won the first set 7-5 over Heitzner, but was shut out in the second set 6-0. She came back to win in a 10-8 tie-breaking battle in the third set to win the match.
Wyoming will continue conference play on the road next week with two matches. The team will take on the Fresno State Bulldogs Thursday and the Nevada Wolf Pack Friday. Both matches will be played in Fresno, Calif.
