The Wyoming track and field team had many athletes who improved personal-best marks and achieved top times at the Fum McGraw Quadrangular in Ft. Collins.
The Cowgirls finished with a first place title in their division, while the Cowboys came in second place.
The Cowgirls had strong showings from individuals across the board.
Senior Mollie Dahl earned UW’s fourth-best all-time distance in the shot put with a 49’-7” throw, which earned her first place, while freshman Sabina Sandberg placed seventh in the high jump with a 5’-6.50”. Sandberg’s mark is UW’s seventh best all-time height for the event. Freshman Kereston Thomas earned UW’s eighth best all-time mark in the 100-meter dash with an 11.92 second run, enough to land first place in the event.
Senior Abi Bever placed first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:37.33, and Andrea Klimowski pursued close behind in second place at 12:02.36. In the 400-meter hurdles, senior Diana Long finished second in 1:01.13 with Taylor Gardner finishing in third in 1:01.71. Thomas also competed in the 200-meter dash, finishing in second place at 24.41 seconds.
For the Cowboys, senior Joe Plante completed a 199’-5” in the hammer throw for first place at the meet, which is UW’s ninth best all-time distance in the event, and currently ranks as the 23rd best throw in the nation this season. Senior Mark Sparks placed third in the hammer throw with a personal-best 192’-4,”. This puts Sparks at No. 41 nationally for the hammer throw event.
Senior Lenyn Leonce came in first in the long jump at a distance of 23’-6.75,” while Stephen Michel placed third at 22’-5.75.” Henry Ferreira finished first in the javelin throw at 198’-7,” while senior Brandon Douglass paced the hurdlers with a third-place time of 14.52 in the 110-meter hurdles.
Nick Ekel led the distance runners in the 5,000-meter with a third-place time of 14:58.92. Devon England and Christine Nelson also led the distance runners in the 5,000-meter with respective times of 18:21.06 and 18:35.07.
Wyoming will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., for the Air Force Combined Events Thursday through Saturday. The first four-heptathlon events will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday and the final three will begin at 11 a.m. Friday. Saturday’s open field events start at 10 a.m., while the track events begin at noon.
