The Wyoming women’s golf team concluded the SDSU Farms Invitational Tuesday, finishing in last place in the 15-team field.
Final stats showed that the Cowgirls hit a 339 (+51) in the third round for a total of 1,003 (+139) on The Farms Golf Club. Top-ranked USC won at 875 (+11), No. 8 Arizona was second at 896 (+32) and No. 31 Pepperdine finished third at 904 (+40).
Junior golfer Stacey Blunt carded an 81 (+9) to tie for 56th place at 244 (+28). She ended the tournament finishing as the top University of Wyoming women’s golfer during the final round of the SDSU Farms Invitational.
“We definitely didn’t play our best at this tournament and we had a lot of difficulty playing on that particular course,” Blunt said. “But we’re practicing very hard for our upcoming tournaments because that last loss was a tough one for our team. We just have to get back into the swing of things and get used to the transition from practicing indoors to playing on an actual course.”
Four Cowgirls improved their score during Monday’s competition of the SDSU Farms Invitational when the University’s women’s golf team cut 24 strokes off of its first round total with a 320 (+32) during the second round on The Farms Golf Club. UW was still stuck in 15thplace but came close to getting out of the cellar when they gained 11 strokes on Michigan. The team trailed behind by just eight points, but, despite their hard work, there was no coming back.
Blunt has finished as the top Cowgirl in all four tournaments this spring, while fellow junior Emily Wood tied with her at the last event and was one stroke back of Blunt on Tuesday.
Wood posted an 87 (+15) on Tuesday for 59th at 245 (+29). Freshman Kathleen Kershisnik tallied a 255 (+39) after an 88 (+16) in the final round to finish tied for 69th, while senior Dana Zamprelli hit an 83 (+11) to claim 77th at 259 (+43). Sophomore Samantha Stancato scored an 88 (+16) in the final round.
Wyoming will host the Cowgirl Classic next week Monday through Wednesday at Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz. The team will then finish out their spring season competing in the Fresno State Lexus Classic held in Fresno, Calif. April 15-16 then proceed to compete in the Mountain West Championship tournament held in Rancho Mirage, Calif. April 25-27.
