While ASUW has already packed in a lot of activities this past year and even though there are only a few weeks left in the semester, senators are preparing for a strong close to the school year.
The senators have a variety of different plans to expedite their actions into next year. Senators Kia Murdoch and Brain Schueler from the College of Arts and Sciences, and Senator Josh Messer from the College of Agriculture have discussed their end of the year plans.
In the last three weeks of her term as a senator and chair of Academics, Technology, and Sustainability Committee, Murdoch has a lot on her plate. Her goals before the end of the semester include sending out an email survey to students about why they have rated the university’s registration so low on the satisfaction survey, to get student feedback on the best place in Coe Library for the digital sign that passed in the senate this month, and provide a detailed committee report to aide the next chair of ATS.
While Murdoch is concerned with student satisfaction, Schueler is working on a resolution to encourage UW to adopt a Good Samaritan policy on drugs and alcohol.
“It has been a pretty interesting semester. I entered the position in January as an alternate senator. Since then it took me a few weeks to get acclimated,” Schueler said.
Messer said he has been enjoying his time as a part of the Constitution Committee, which just submitted its last piece of legislation realigning the duties of the committees to be more in line with ASUW’s needs.
Outside of committee work, Messer established a bill that would fund child care assistance to UW students.
