India Awareness Week an event hosted by Milaap will showcase the culture of India through a Documentary, Bollywood movie and Panel discussions throughout this week.
The week started off with a documentary on Monday and a Bollywood movie Tuesday. The goal of the movie was to raise funds for an ongoing project, which works to keep girls in school.
Today, there will be panel discussion on “Permanent seat for India in the UN Security Council”. The United Nations Security Council is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations and is charged with the maintenance of international peace and security. It includes five veto-wielding permanent members China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. There are also 10 non-permanent members. Initially, some countries opposed to the proposal of India’s candidacy as India has acquired nuclear weapons and not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. But eventually, India started receiving huge international support.
Saturday India Awareness Week will continue with a workshop on “Yoga”, a commonly known generic term for physical, mental and spiritual disciplines that originated in ancient India. Sunday, there will be a celebration for “Dandiya Night”, a traditional folk dance form of Vrindavan, India at the Wyoming Union Yellowstone Ballroom. Workshops of Henna, Saree draping, Cricket and Country exhibition are also a part of the final event. Bollywood is the informal name given to the popular Mumbai-based film industry in India and no celebration in the country is complete without a Bollywood dance.
India is the seventh largest country by area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world.
The Indian culture consists of multiple components including religions, customs, languages, arts, values and the lifestyle of the people. Indian languages, religions, dance, music, architecture, food and customs vary from place to place within India.
