The University of Wyoming women’s golf team hosted the Cowgirl Classic at Ocotillo Golf Resort, which ended Wednesday in Chandler, Ariz.
Juniors Emily Wood and Stacey Blunt ended the event tying for 42nd place, which helped to put their team at 11th in the final team standings.
The top three finishers in the Classic were Boise State, winning with 901 (+37), while Xavier was second at 920 (+56) and Portland State rounded out the top three at 924 (+60). The Broncos’ Hayley Young took the individual title at 214 (-2), while Portland State’s Aram Choi and Britney Yada finished second and third with 221 (+5) and 226 (+6), respectively.
Wood remained tied for 48th while senior Dana Zamprelli was recognized as the top Cowgirl in the individual standings. She tied for 40th after her score in the second round. Blunt shot 79 (+7) on Tuesday to sit tied with sophomore Samantha Stancato at 165 (+21) for 61st. Stancato hit 85 (+13) in the second round. Freshman Kathleen Kershisnik improved her score by four strokes with an 81 (+9) to tie for 72nd at 167 (+23). Sophomore Kristen Jensen and redshirt Emily Woodard, playing as individuals, hit rounds of 83 (+11) and 89 (+17), respectively.
During Wednesday’s competition, Blunt carded a team-low 75 (+3) and Wood hit a 78 (+6) in the final round. The two tied for the second time this spring. Both notched a 230 (+14) at the BYU Entrada Classic two weeks ago. The two have traded being the top Cowgirl at the team’s last five tournaments.
Zamprelli posted an 80 (+8) on Wednesday to tie for 46th at 241 (+25). Stancato finished one stroke back in a tie for 52nd after a 77 (+5) in the final round and Kershisnik was one stroke back of Stancato in a tie for 60th at 243 (+27) with a 76 (+4) on Wednesday. The top five Cowgirls all finished within three strokes of each other. Jensen and redshirt Woodard totaled 247 (+31) and 262 (+46), respectively, playing as individuals.
Wyoming will continue its spring season at the Fresno State Lexus Classic scheduled for Monday and Tuesday and in Fresno, Calif.
