Library After Hours, a program for adults in the Laramie community, is hosting a free beer tasting at the Albany County Public Library tonight.
This is the second tasting at the library this month. The last one took place last Friday.
“The tasting last week was very popular. We had almost 40 people. We hope to attract a similar number of participants this week,” Miranda Webster, Library After Hours coordinator, said. “In past years, we’ve held beer tastings with similar success, the first one we held attracting over 50 people. We wanted to provide two nights of beer tastings, so we could assure everyone could get a taste.”
Library After Hours partnered with Altitude Chophouse and Brewery and brew master Nathan Venner to offer the free tastings.
Just like the last tasting, six different beers will be offered at tonight’s event. The beer for the horizontal beer tasting will be the American Sky Wheat including Tumble Wheat from Altitude, Easy Street from O’Dells, and Hefeweizen from the Widmer Brothers. A horizontal beer tasting is when people drink different samples of one type of beer to compare the differences.
“The reason for those three is that at least one of those has won a Great American Beer festival medal since 2003,” Venner said.
The three beers for the vertical beer tasting will be American Hops in an American IPA, black IPA, and style brown IPA. A vertical beer tasting is when participants sample one type of beer from different years.
Venner also will showcase a beer and cheese pairing. He has chosen a cabra-blanca avalanche cheese. The beer to pair is yet to be disclosed.
Library After Hours hosts many on-going events for adults usually between the ages of 21 and 39, including book club and Adult Lego Night. In previous months, they have hosted ghost hunters, fitness classes, and geocaching.
“We like to have fun and offer up-beat, unique programs and activities each month,” Webster said.
The beer tasting is from 7-9 p.m. tonight in the meeting room of the Albany County Public Library. Only those of legal drinking age may participate.
Those planning to attend should show up early, as the event is limited to the first 45 people.
