The University of Wyoming Track & Field teams put out some notable individual performances at two events last weekend.
At the Colorado Invitational, redshirt junior Mason Finley threw a new personal best in the discus event.
Finley hit a mark of 24’ 9”, the second farthest throw in the United States this season, and would have been the second longest throw in UW track & field history had he not been competing unattached at the meet. The throw also was good enough for 11th in the world rankings this year.
At the Nebraska Quad Meet in Lincoln, Neb. Saturday, seven athletes reached new career best times and seven athletes had first place finishes.
The women’s team earned four first-place finishes and saw three athletes achieve new career bests.
Junior Jenna Mann; senior Diana Long; the relay team of Audrey West, Maggie Ochsner, Jolie Dubois and Kereston Thomas and a second relay team consisting of McKenzie Brogan, Sam Kee, Taylor Gardner and Long all earned first place finishes in their events.
Mann took first in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line with a time of 14.33 seconds, and the relay team of West, Ochsner, Dubois and Thomas finished first in the 4×100 relay. They finished the race in 47.61 seconds.
Long came in first place in the 400 meter hurdles. Her final time clocked in at 1:00.80, just milliseconds off of her personal best of 59.90 seconds. Long, along with Brogan, Kee and Gardner, finished in first in the 4×400 relay event. Their final time was 3:47.02.
Along with the first place finishes in their respective relays, Thomas, Brogan and Kee set new personal marks in individual events.
Both Kee and Brogan competed in the 400-meter event, finishing third and fifth respectively. Kee clocked in with a final time of 56.25 seconds, while Brogan earned her personal best at 57.23 seconds. Thomas competed in the 100-meter dash, finishing the race in 12.06 seconds, earning second place.
Senior Olivia Heaston also improved on her previous best time in the 800-meter. She finished in fifth place with a time of 2:16.46.
On the men’s team, there were three first-place finishers in Lincoln.
Senior Henry Ferreria took home first place in the javelin event with a throw of 207’ 22”. Fellow senior Joe Plante finished first in the hammer toss with a throw of 195 feet.
Next up for UW Track and Field is the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. The event will take place April 17-20.
