For the Adopt-the-Campus program, campus cleanup is not just a one day event.
While faculty, students and staff have been invited to take part in a campus-wide cleanup for Earth Day, which has now been postponed until April 22 due to weather, the Adopt-the Campus program looks to keep the surrounding areas clean year round.
Adopt-the-Campus looks to utilize recognized student organizations to keep the campus clean by asking them to “adopt” a certain area of the university grounds to keep it trash-free.
“Adopt-the-Campus program is for RSOs and different groups on campus to pledge in a way to keep sections of campus clean and trash free,” ASUW chief-of-staff Branden Hayes said. “The groups that take part in the program are asked to clean up a section of campus a couple of times a semester.”
As ASUW chief-of-staff, Hayes is in charge of the Adopt-the-Campus program and its year round cleanups.
“The whole goal of the program is to keep campus clean, so there are a couple of cleanup days that take place during the year,” Hayes said.
The program is still fairly new, as it was only founded at the University of Wyoming within the last few years.
“The Adopt-the-Campus program is in its second full year, but more its third year overall,” Hayes said.
It was initiated by ASUW as part of the sustainability efforts on campus. Although the campus cleanup will be the last for this semester, the Adopt-the-Campus program continues throughout the year to keep the surrounding areas for the university clean.
