The Student Activities Council is bringing ZZ Ward to UW as a part of its Spring Concert Series.
She will perform at 8 p.m. tonight in the Wyoming Union Ballroom.
ZZ Ward will be the first performance of the concert series, as The Dear Hunter could not make it due to last week’s snowstorm. However, according to Maddy Graham, Lead Student Programmer for the Student Activities Council, The Dear Hunter will be back next fall.
“The Spring Concert Series is a great way to celebrate the end of the school year. We hope that the students will take a quick break from their studies to relax, have fun with their friends, and enjoy some amazing music,” Graham said.
In the past year ZZ Ward’s music has been featured on shows such as Nashville, Pretty Little Liars, Awkward, and The Glades. Her most well-known song, “Put the Gun Down”, has been on the Billboard Top 100. She has also been on Conan and Jay Leno.
In 2012, Ward completed a 50-date headlining American tour with sold-out dates in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Denver and Nashville. Though she has been performing since age 13, Ward is still in awe over her recent success with music.
“That was the first year I played in cities I’d never been to, and yet I had fans there,” Ward said. “They came to the shows, knew the lyrics, and had already connected with the songs. It was fun, but surreal.”
This year, she will be co-headlining The Fire and Shine Tour with Delta Rae, and plans to perform at SXSW, where she introduced herself as an artist to watch out for last year.
“I have been looking forward to this concert for quite some time, I honestly think that she is the next big thing, and we are lucky to have her,“ Graham said.
Next week, Air Dubai, who in the past week opened for Sublime with Rome, Lupe Fiasco, and Macklemore, will be the last band to perform at UW for the Spring Concert Series.
