The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees have appointed Dick McGinity as the 25th president of the University.
Trustees voted to approve a contract to appoint McGinity, according to a press release on the University of Wyoming’s website. The board noted his past accomplishments in business and the military as well as his commitment to UW’s land-grant and flagship missions.
McGinity’s contract will extend through June 30, 2016 and provide an annual salary of $375,00. In the event the board or McGinity decides he will not serve the full term of his contract, a buyout is specifically ruled out. The contract states McGinity would return to his faculty position in the UW College of Business at a salary five-sixths what his made as interim vice president of academic affairs as stated in UW regulations.
“I am excited at this opportunity to help lead the university as it strives to achieve its incredible potential,” McGinity says in the press release. “We have an excellent administrative team, an outstanding faculty and staff, superb students, and unbelievable support from the people of Wyoming and our alumni. We will work hard to harness those assets to carry us to greater heights.”
McGinity’s top priorities include a focus on student success and producing graduates who are ready to compete in the global job market; demonstrating academic excellence in specific areas of instruction, research and service; and cultivating a culture of interaction with Wyoming resident’s.
McGinity and his administration are working with state lawmakers and Gov. Matt Mead to prepare for the legislature’s 2014 budget session. Gov. Mead has recommended funding for top priorities at the university such as , pay raises to retain and recruit top faculty and staff, facility improvements, enhancements of information technology and classrooms for students and partnerships with Wyoming community colleges.
