The University of Wyoming announced at half-time today that the Arena-Auditorium will be getting a $30 million facelift.
As part of that facelift, the auditorium will be dubbed the Maury Brown Court, in honor of a “successful Cheyenne businessman.”
According to a university release, the fundraising effort behind the project shattered records for Wyoming Basketball.
Funds for the project came from private and state funds. At half-time the University recognized 36 private donors who contributed $10 million to the renovation.
As an incentive for fundraising, the Wyoming State Legislature matched $10 million towards the project. Last year, the state approved the allocation of $5 million towards the project, and this year the state seeks to approve the remaining $5 million.
Tim Harkins, Associate Athletic Director for Media Relations, says the last $5 million is a part of the governor’s current budget proposal and is contingent on successfully going through the appropriations process during the current legislative session.
Construction is expected to begin “immediately” after the regular season.
