ASUW passed $30,000 in requests for funds to go towards various diversity events on campus this spring semester. Most of the requests centered around creating awareness for students the community concerning diversity.
The first of the funding requests to pass was in the amount of $5,586 towards METCHA. This money will go towards a fundraising event that will promote diversity first hand as well as develop awareness of the Hispanic culture.
Many senators discussing the event agreed that the event would be “great for the student body.” METCHA moves to help influence cultural awareness, get donations for future events, and influence others on the Chicano population.
The second request concerned an event with the Agriculture fraternity on campus (Beta Chapter). This food event is the largest on campus, and is estimated to provide food to around 2,500 people. It will promote beefing, agriculture studies and conservation. The request passed and $4,901 was given to the event.
The third request was for $8,500 in funding for the Iran diversity event. The event will consist of Iranian culture, food and music to help promote awareness of the culture and dispel prejudiced notions of Iran.
Lastly, a request for $9,500 was passed for the Wyoming African Association for the awareness week on campus that they promote. This event advertises awareness on the culture and reality of life in Africa. This event will take place Feb. 10-15.
