The University of Wyoming women’s swimming and diving team defeated Border War rivals Colorado State 182-110 on Saturday afternoon at home in Corbett Pool in a senior day matchup. Wyoming finished the contest with victories in 14 of 16 events and five new school records.

“We knew we could come in and win some events and it was a complete team effort and it was just a lot of fun,” Wyoming head coach Tom Johnson said. “The crowd was great and I know I wouldn’t want to face us on senior day.

Seniors Morgan Hartigan and Amanda Fay earned a total of three school records between them in their final home meet to spearhead the Cowgirls winning effort.

Hartigan won three races and set two university benchmarks. She started her day with a win in the 50-meter freestyle recording a time of 23.24. Next, she recorded a win and a school record in the 100-meter freestyle in 50.76. Hartigan rounded out the day with a win in the 200-meter individual medley with a school-record time of 2:05.4.

“Morgan (Hartigan) has been trying to get those records for a few years and I’m so proud of the way that she swam today,” Johnson said.

Fay claimed her school record in the 1-meter springboard with a total score of 325.95, which puts her atop the Mountain West’s best list for the current season. Fay also recorded a second-place finish in the 3-meter springboard with a score of 297.45.

“It was a great way for Amanda to finish her career in Corbett Pool,” UW diving coach Yahya Radman said. “She thought that she wasn’t at her best, but she was very consistent and that led to high scores.”

Senior Stephanie Young earned an event win for the Cowgirls in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:05.35 in her final home meet.

Sophomore Keara Chang also stood out, grabbing victories in the 500-meter (5:08.84) and 200-meter (1:55.21) freestyle events.

Junior Jordan Denny won a pair of events as well, winning the 100 and 200-meter backstroke with respective times of 55.92 and 2:03.09.

The Cowgirls got wins from several other team members. Sophomore Nicole Hlavacek won the 1,000-meter freestyle, junior Claudia Carlson won the 200-meter butterfly and sophomore Molly Coonce earned a victory in the 100-meter butterfly.

Divers competed well also, with sophomore Kari Campbell and freshman Keely Bishop both qualifying for the NCAA Zone Championships in the 3-meter springboard.

“Keely and Kari did a great job and both qualifying for zones is huge for the program and we are very much in the right direction,” Radman said.

Wyoming swimming and diving—both men’s and women’s squads—return to the pool this weekend, with the divers heading to the Air Force Invite in Colorado Springs, Colo. on Friday and Saturday and the swimmers travelling to Las Vegas, Nev. to take on UNLV and Nevada.
