ASUW Update

ASUW LogoSenators met last night for a meeting to discuss events and plans for the following week. The meeting included a guest speaker from ASTEC, Andrew Hays, along with three guests from the Laramie Community College student government.

The senators addressed the following:

-ASTEC guest speaker Andrew Hays talked with the senators about what ASTEC has done so far this semester and their upcoming goals and events. ASTEC is a professional group on campus that provides audio and lighting services to RSO events.  He talked about working with more larger scale events along with having a more hands on approach to the planning of RSO events.

-President Kahler addressed in his communications that he discussed tuition increases with the inter fraternity council and will be waiting on a response from them concerning their position and comments on the bill.

-Kahler also talked with senators about Vice President Murdoch and his tour of the new Gateway building and how it will be a benefit to students come next fall.

-Two representatives from Wyoming Senator Barasso’s office came to speak with senators about applying for internships at the Senator’s office.

-Vice President Murdoch addressed the importance of election season approaching for senators and to re-read the rules and regulations concerning elections. Students can apply for senator, vice president and president positions online at the ASUW website.

-ASUW elected Noah Holt, former senator in ASUW, for the first position as elections commissioner to the council.

-Resident Halls mentioned bringing back “Blizzards for Bookworms” event along with a Harry Potter week for students living in the dorms.

-The senators also briefly mentioned the major concerns students addressed in a recent survey, saying that the top three issues students request to be changed are better Wi-Fi in dorms and classrooms, lower textbook prices and to open the underground tunnels to the various buildings on campus.

-First reading for two new bills took place. Bill #2416 addressed the Formal Elimination of Outreach Presentation. Bill #2417 discussed the Establishment of a Judicial Council Liaison.

The meeting concluded with Vice President Murdoch encouraging senators to “go see the basketball game.”
