The Wyoming indoor track team raced in Albuquerque, N.M. and Seattle this past weekend competing at the Don Kirby Elite Invite and the Husky Classic.
The performance of the week goes to graduate Harry Fisher who broke his old personal best in the 800-meter by two seconds with a 1:49.29.
Fisher’s 800 time garnered him many accolades which included the second fastest time ever in that event at the University of Wyoming.
It was also the fastest time in the Mountain West this season and currently ranks him 25th in the nation in the 800-meter.
Junior hurdler Colin Herold also set the second fastest time ever at UW in the 60-meter hurdles recording a time of 8.08.
For the women, senior Candace Wollert broke the school record, her own record, in the 800 with a time of 2:11.39.
Other notable performances from Albuquerque, N.M. included freshman Kerry White finishing fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:11.80. That places her third all-time at UW. Flipping over to the men’s side in the same event, graduate Thomas Atkinson ran a 1:52.15, placing him eighth all-time at UW.
“It seems like we had kids everywhere this weekend, but overall they competed well across the board and we got a lot of top-10 performances,” UW head coach Bryan Berryhill said.
“That being said, we have a lot of things to clean up before conference in two weeks. Our schedule has progressively got more stressful and challenging, but the kids responded well to this weekend›s meets. We had a lot of kids perform their very best, but also a lot of kids that were solid like they have been all year. The goal now is just to get that little bit more out of them in two weeks to reach our goal of top-three finishes at the conference meet.”
Sophomore Scott Carter ran a 8.27 in he 60 meter hurdles which places him eighth all-time at UW. Freshman Jordan Charles in that same event recored a time of 6.92 which puts him tenth all-time at UW.
In the women’s 60 meter dash, sophomore Kereston Thomas tuned in a time of 7.64 and senior Audrey West was not far behind with a time of 7.70.
In Seattle, senior thrower Mason Finley earned his fifth shot put title of the season with a throw of 62-5.
