According to an email from Wyoming Highway Patrol, Charles Hankerson Jr., redshirt junior guard for the Wyoming men’s basketball team, is currently facing criminal charges.

Wyoming Highway Patrol also stated that it has no intention of releasing further information related to the case until deemed appropriate by the county attorney.

“[T]his is a criminal case and nothing can be released unless approved by the county attorney,” said Kim McLees, the Wyoming Highway Patrol’s records and data management specialist in an email.

On Monday Hankerson was suspended indefinitely from the Wyoming basketball squad. At the time of the suspension, the team gave no reason for the suspension and Coach Shyatt announced via written statement that the Cowboys’ coaches and players would have no additional comment.

As of now, the University of Wyoming athletic department has not commented on this new development in the news of Hankerson’s suspension.

The loss of Hankerson particularly hurts the Cowboys right now, as the team is already reeling from the loss of junior forward Larry Nance Jr. who is out for the season with a torn ACL.

As Hankerson’s suspension took place Monday, he was not suited up or present for the Cowboys loss to the Air Force Academy Falcons on Tuesday night.
