Downtown atmosphere and local talent collide with a flow of beer on tap on this year’s fat Tuesday.
Tuesday night the Crowbar was filled with Laramie residents who came to enjoy some good music, delicious food, a few refreshing drinks, and good conversation with friends.
The middle of the semester is often an extremely stressful time. Students and faculty alike can begin to feel drained from the many stresses and responsibilities of life.
Acoustic Tuesdays at the Crowbar offer Wyoming residents an escape in the middle of the week.
Every other Tuesday, local acoustic bands get a chance to show case their talent downtown in a laid back, friendly, and inviting environment. It was apparent that everyone enjoyed the evening; people were laughing often and singing along to the music.
Andrew Glines, part owner of the Crowbar said, “We host acoustic Tuesdays to promote local bands and talent, we really enjoy it.”
The Crowbar definitely lived up to its reputation of being a laid back, neighborhood gathering place with a friendly staff and interesting crowd. Acoustic Tuesday is the perfect event to attend after work, and from what I gathered several audience members had in fact come to the event directly after getting off work.
Audience member Savvi Mckillie said, “I like coming to acoustic Tuesdays because it’s a nice way to unwind in the middle of the week, and they usually have beer and drink specials…I work two jobs and Wednesday is my day, off so it works out perfectly.” Mckillie is a former University of Wyoming student and now is employed by the University.
Marson Liae, another audience member and former student said, “I really like acoustic Tuesday because it supports local musicians, and it’s really relaxed. For me and my friends it’s a fun place to hang out after work. Personally I am really involved in the music scene…I play in several bands, and I have played at Acoustic Tuesdays once before. I really enjoy it. I try and come every time they have it.”
I also had the opportunity to speak with John Pierce, a member of a band.
“I am in the Last Minute Band,” Pierce said. “I started playing music as a hobby but now it has turned into a lot more than that. Through music, you run into people with similar interests, so you start hanging out with them and you build great friendships…when you get up on stage people are clapping, dancing and singing along to whatever you are playing and it’s a whole other feeling. I have played here for acoustic Tuesday twice before but this is the first time that I have a bass player and a lead guitar player…we have actually never played together before, no practice or anything…so this should be interesting” In the end, they did a great job.
