The Cowboy golf team competed in the Duck Invitational Monday and Tuesday in Creswell, Oregon, tying for 11th in the tournament with a combined score of 906 (+42).
“I’m proud of the way we were able to compete. I like sticking around beating teams and being in reach of catching a few more,” Wyoming head coach Joe Jensen said. “We can certainly still play better but it was good to see us play the way we did with another good field.”
Senior Brent Baylon led Wyoming, finishing in the top-10 at sixth with a three-round score of 209 (+2). Baylon shot even par on the par-3s throughout the tournament and tied for third with 11 total birdies. He also tied for fourth in par-4 scoring with a +3.
Sophomore Kamrin Allen had his best tournament of the spring, tying for 30th with a total score of 225 (+9). Following Allen was senior teammate Eddie Stewart, who fired a 228 (+12).
Stewart tied for seventh in the field in the number of pars carded at 34.
Coming in fourth for the Cowboys was senior Eric Parish who finished with 238 (+22). Not far behind Parish was freshman Ryan Wallen, who carded a 239 (+23). Finally junior Cameron Lindell finished up with a total score of 240 (+24).
Wyoming as a team lacked consistency. Some golfers shot their best rounds on Monday morning and their worst rounds Tuesday or vice versa.
Oregon State University won the tournament with a team score of 873 (+9). The Beavers were nine shots ahead of second place Minnesota, who shot 882 (+18). Coming in third were the Ducks, with a team score of 884 (+20).
The individual tournament crown was shared between Minnesota’s Jose Mendez and Colorado’s Jeremy Paul. They both carded a score of 213 (-3).
Wyoming, prior to the Duck Invitational, competed in the Arizona National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Arizona.
Baylon again led the Cowboys in scoring carding a 224 (+8). Not too far behind him was Stewart, who fished up with a total score of 229 (+13).
Baylon showed great consistency in this tournament, firing a 75, 76 and a 73, while Stewart struggled with consistency, shooting a 74, 82 and a 73.
Rounding out the scoring for Wyoming was Allen, shooting 230 (+14). Next was Parish, who carded a 237 (+21). Following him was Lindell, who shot a 239 (+23). Finally, playing individually for the Cowboys, Wallen finished up with a 223 (+7).
Wyoming will now set their sights on another tournament they will host down in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Wyoming Cowboy Classic will take place on April 7th and 8th.
