Cowboy’s club baseball earned a split against the Colorado State Rams on Sunday, winning the first game 10-8 and dropping the second 11-1.
Saturday’s game was cancelled due to snow in Fort Collins and will be rescheduled.
“We came out too flat in game two and they smacked us in the mouth,” said freshmen infielder Abel Casas. “But we had practice Monday and Tuesday and we are getting back to work. I feel after these practices we should be ready to go this weekend.”
Left-handed pitcher senior Rhowe Stefasnki pitched the first six innings of game one, raking in his second win this season.
Senior pitcher Ryan Bunger, who recorded his first save this season, pitched the seventh inning.
The Cowboys were consistent offensively throughout the first game, scoring runs in six of the seven innings.
Veteran Cowboys had a great day at bat. Senior center fielder Dylln Rider hit 3-4, senior third basemen Rylan Harding was 2-3, and senior shortstop Beau Hall also went 2-3 in game one.
After a win in game one, the Cowboys fell by a wide margin.
Senior Tony Goebel pitched four of the seven innings of game two, putting a loss on his scorecard for this season in the 10-point loss.
The only run for Wyoming was brought in by senior right fielder Connor Norton. Sophomore catcher David Case was credited with the RBI, bringing Norton home on a line drive.
Unfortunately for the Cowboys, closing the second game of double headers has been a regular struggle they will need to work on as the season continues.
“We need to focus on remaining tough for fourteen innings rather than just seven,” said bench coach Will Burger. “Carrying the intensity into the second game, rather than just plateauing after our first win.”
Wyoming club baseball will return to the field this weekend in Greeley, Colo., where they will face the University of Northern Colorado-Greely in a double header for a stretch of four games. The conference series will take place at Jackson Field at 12 and 2 p.m.
