With three kegs and music from 9pm to midnight, the Agroecology Club announced itself as a forced to be reckoned with on the fundraiser circuit, Thursday night at the Buckhorn Bar. Club president Nick Glompert said the fundraiser was a fun way to get the word out about the club of just nine members.
“It’s kind of hard to get new members,” said Glompert. “This event is to not only raise some money for the club but to also raise awareness.”
Plant science major Lacey Fisher, a new club member, said she hoped the event was a success. In her first semester as part of the organization, she is looking forward to expanding the focus and reach of the club.
Fisher explained money from fundraisers, such as the kegger, go to fund educational trips including tours of experiment and research centers, poultry farms and local markets.
“[We are trying to] raise awareness and give students the chance to learn about food systems,” said Fisher. “Most people don’t know where their food comes from.”
Fisher admitted the club is quite small and so the current members are working on expanding their numbers, especially since a portion of the members are graduating.
“The trips and events like the kegger bring people in and get people involved,” said Fisher. “Right now trips are to [places like] Fort Collins because it is close but it would be cool to broaden our horizons and go further.”
