Freshman Taylor Dorans led the Cowgirls last weekend at the Mountain View Collegiate Tournament in Tucson, Ariz. Dorans finished tied for 42nd place, adding 227 strokes to the Cowgirls’ total of 925 (+61).
Dorans shot 153 (+9) after ending the first two rounds with 77 (+5) and 76 (+4). She shot her season best score after the second round of the tournament and followed that up in the final round shooting a career-best 74 (+2).
“Taylor played very solid and confident golf today and she was just very steady all day long,” said Wyoming head coach Josey Stender.
After getting off to a rocky start, Wyoming wrapped up the three-round tournament in 13th place in a field of 15.
The Cowgirls shot 309 (+21) in the first round and added six strokes to their second round score for their opening day total of 624 and 48 over par, closing out the first two rounds in 14th place.
Despite their lackluster performance to start the tournament, the Cowgirls came back in the final round, shooting their lowest round of the season and improving their field standing by one place.
“It was good to bounce back and have our lowest round of the spring in the first round of play today,” said Stender. “We saw a lot of improvement and it is a matter of getting everything together.”
Ending the tournament tied in 66th place, seniors Stacey Blunt and Emily Wood finished at 233 (+17) after three rounds at the Mountain View Golf Club.
Blunt finished the first 36-holes at 155 (+11), while Wood fell behind by four stokes at 159 (+15). Both seniors concluded the final 18 holes at 78 (+6).
“It was great to move up and have everyone contribute at the end of the day,” Stender said. “I think we have a positive groove going into hosting our tournament coming up.”
Sophomore Emily Woodard opted to compete in the tournament as an individual, ending the tournament in 64th place with a total score of 232 (+16) after shooting 76 and four over par in the final round.
Nebraska finished in first place, winning the tournament by one stroke with a score of 874 (+10). Kent State followed in the field at 875 (+11) and Missouri rounded out the top-three at 879 (+15).
Gonzaga’s Alice Kim finished first in the 84-player field, turning in a final scorecard of 210, six under par.
