The semester is drawing to an end. The weather is warming up. Gradually. And classes are almost out, which will equal freedom for three months.

The problem is, while we can see Finals Week at the end of the tunnel, we still have some time before we actually make it there.

There are some key tips to surviving the next three weeks before finals. That’s right. You heard me, three weeks.

The first step is to stay on track. Keep going to classes. Just because they are winding down doesn’t make them any less important. In fact, the few classes you have left, the more intense they are likely to get. So resist the urge to play hookie as the weather gets warmer. It’s not worth it, I promise.

Try to avoid the bars. I know getting your redneck on at the White Trash Bash may seem like your best idea yet, but staying home and focusing on turning those grades around is a better plan.

To keep your focus on school and away from the sunny weather of every state but Wyoming, try exercising more. Running outside each day is good way to soak up what sunny weather we do have, while helping your focus stay maintained.

Just watch out for squirrels if you have any of those short attention span tendencies.

Why exercise, you ask? Well, as we all know, summer is coming and it’s time we all started working on those beach bodies now that they don’t have to be covered up by hoodies and layers. Honestly, April is the time to start thinking forward.

Eat healthy! (Come to think of it, this is actually a “How-to-prepare for summer column.) The best way to do that is to exercise and eat right. Not only will you be prepared for the impending swimsuit season, it will also help you to stay focused on the tasks at hand, like your homework and studying for final exams.

My final piece of advice is to not jumpstart your summer vacation before it actually gets here. If you decide on taking that long weekend to go get your tan on in California, which involves ditching your Friday classes, watch out. That may just come back to bite you.

Nose to the grindstone for the next month means an even better summer break. Unless you’re taking summer classes. In which case I think you may get a week off.
