Last Friday the streets around NU2U were host to live music and the sight of many different costumes as the 4th Annual Costume Party and Street Dance took place. NU2U has been putting on this street dance for the last three years.
This tradition originally started back in 2010 and has grown from there. With the people, organizers, and bands themselves dressing up, it was evident to see that summer was gone and the crisp nights of fall were coming into full force.
“We put on the costume party and street dance as a big thank you for all our regulars and just have a big show and let everyone know we’re here when school starts,” said NU2U Owner Rob Harder. “Halloween is the most important time of the year for us and we want to let people know we’re on the scene and cater to it and make it fun”.
With live music from Jeff Duloz Music, Von Stomper, and The Particular Patriots the streets filled with sound. Many people were outside dancing to the sound of drums, guitars, bass, trombones and lyrical vocals.
“I think the best part about playing an outside venue is the foot traffic, and get to hear us. It’s also so cool to get the people dancing and enjoying the music,” said Dave Ginger, the trombonist of The Particular Patriots.
While the costume aspect of the night also had people getting into the swing of things. From best costume to best dancer, the night’s events always had people moving, dancing, or competing.
As the 4th Annual Costume Party and Street Dance came to a close you could see the variety of costumes moving to the beat of the music. From bananas, to gnomes, to cats and pirates the streets around NU2U were abuzz with movement and sound.
“It’s a great store and I wanted to come out and support my friends, the owners, and listen to live music,” said event participant Karen Howard. “It’s a good clean, fun environment.”
With final words of public safety for the night the NU2U street dance came to an end for another year.
