The Gryphon Theater was alive with music Thursday night as country singer-songwriter Aaron Watson preformed.
Known as the Honky Tonk Kid, Aaron Watson was originally born in Amarillo, Texas. Now living in Abilene Texas. In his twelve-year career he has made eleven albums and has had four top singles in the state of Texas. The country music star takes a lot of his inspiration for his music from his way of life, religion and his own personal experience.
“Real life is my music. It’s like my song “July in Cheyenne” and I poured my heart into it,” said Watson. “It’s a song about salvation and its more cowboy and gospel tune. It lets me share my faith in Jesus.”
Watson said the song means so much to him. He also said that he has a passion to write about his wife, kids and all things he loves.
“I’m thankful it’s something I can do and make a living for my family,” said Watson
“I love his music because you can tell there is a lot of passion and real emotion behind each of his songs. It really allows the music to become something we can all relate to in some way,” said Amy Andrews who attended Thursday’s concert.
Aaron Watson is not a stranger to the Cowboy State. Preforming multiple shows in Wyoming and even coming up with the inspiration for one of his most popular songs “July in Cheyenne,” Watson has experienced a little bit of the way of life in Wyoming.
“You know I’ve just fallen in love with the state of Wyoming and how it’s like west Texas,” said Watson. “We’ve played several shows in Cheyenne. I love rodeo, the cowboy way of life, and Laramie”.
