The Jazz Jam Series has begun a new semester of student music for the university.
Every Monday evening several jazz musicians come together to play their most favorite jazz jams, hence the name of the event: Jazz Jam Series.
Peter Queal, one of the people in charge of this unique event, said that these jam sessions are held not only to benefit jazz students, but also the entire student body. The Jazz Jam Series has been active for two years now, and has created a tight knit group of students and faculty.
Many of the students that perform are university players and are in bands with one another, which create a definite community. Although everyone is close with one another, Angel Adams commented on new faces.
“There aren’t many girls that come and play, but we are gaining some new girl players,” she said. Adams also said that she loves coming and playing with all of the guys: “They don’t really make me feel different from them.”
Everyone who plays at these sessions seem to really love these events and have made it a part of their everyday lives, said Adams
“I’ve been playing jazz for three or four years now, and have played about thirty or forty of these sessions since last year,” said Adams.
Adams, Michael Peterson and several of their colleagues went on to play several of their favorite jazz jams for the next two hours. Queal even joined in on some of the songs by adding in some jazzy guitar tones.
Queal believes that these jam sessions provide a great atmosphere for students who love jazz or even those that just have homework that needs to be done.
“It would be nice to see a few more faces at these sessions, the more the merrier!” Queal said with a smile on his face.
If you are a jazz musician, fan or just need a great spot to finish up homework, the Jazz Jam Sessions in the Gardens may be the place for you.
