ASUW approved three new bills during its weekly meeting on Tuesday evening.
During the meeting, a student addressed the senate, asking for their help promoting this year’s “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes”. The government gave no decision on promoting the event.
The guest speaker for the meeting was UW Associate Vice President and Dean of Students Sean Blackburn. Blackburn gave brief background information about himself before introducing his three initiatives for the year; the first one was student engagement, second was safety and finally inclusive excellence.
ASUW president Ahmed Balogun provided the senate with a summary of what he did last week. He said that he made a strategic plan for next year that includes supporting executives in their new roles.
ASUW Director of Finance presented his weekly and monthly tasks, before attempting to recruit more senators to join his finance committee.
Chelsea Schnyer, ASUW director of marketing gave her weekly report as well. Schnyer said most of her week was spent helping with the establishment of WyoVocal.
Many RSOs sought funding during the meeting; The Indian Student Association requested more than $11,000 to fund their “Indian Night” on October 11. All senators approved the requested funding for the Indian Student Association.
Phi Lambda Sigma, the pharmacy leadership honorary, said during the meeting that the group plans to push UW toward donating the leftovers from the residence halls’ food.
The senate approved three new bills. Bill No. 2435 establishes ASUW elections procedures for the upcoming year; Bill No. 2436 seeks ASUW support for the implementation for WyoVocal; and Bill No. 2437 concerns accurately representing students. Some senators requested edits to the bills before they were unanimously approved.
