Homecoming Celebration Offers Several Activities

 

homecoming paradeHomecoming weekend boasts a long agenda of activities for students to celebrate the University of Wyoming’s homecoming over the weekend. These events range from endless pancakes to free pizza to free bowling.

Friday morning Prexy’s pasture will be a venue for breakfast. The free Breakfast on the Lawn will start at 8 a.m.

Later on that day at 11:30 a.m., there will be a trivia bowl and the ASUW Pig Roast. Teams of three to eight will test their knowledge on subjects ranging from UW football to present pop culture. The trivia bowl will take place in Simpson’s Plaza during the annual Pig Roast.

At 4:30 p.m. on Friday, the reception for the exhibit in Gallery 234 about the Union 75th anniversary will take place. A soda jerk, who worked at the soda fountain 75 years ago during the Union’s inception, will be the guest speaker. The exhibit is a showcase of pictures of the latter days of UW’s Union.

Friday Night Fever will be hosting a bowling night at Laramie Lanes. By showing a UW student I.D., students can receive a night of free bowling. Arriving early is advised since availability comes on a first-come, first-serve basis. The event runs 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.

Saturday, Oct. 18 is the culmination of UW Homecoming 2014.

It all kicks off with the homecoming parade that begins at 9:30 a.m. It will be on Grand Avenue between Third and 13th Streets. Rod and Maxine Chisholm were chosen as the grand marshals for the parade.

At 10:30 a.m. the Union will serve birthday cake for it’s 75th in the breezeway after the parade.

Free pizza, free Pepsi, free tailgate games and live music are all part of the student homecoming tailgate party that will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday. It will be held outside of gate 3 at War Memorial Stadium.

The football game will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday as the Cowboys take on the Spartans from San Jose State.

Tri Delta will host its annual philanthropy fundraiser by holding a 24-hour pancake feed. Known as “Trihop,” the sorority raises money for St. John’s Children’s Hospital. It will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday and end at 10 a.m. Sunday rounding off homecoming activities.
