Oil prices have dropped to its lowest price per barrel for the first time in the last 4 years, influencing a larger number of people to travel. Although prices are falling nationally, Wyoming is placed as the 45th highest oil price average out of the 51 states including Washington D.C. The nation has not recovered from a $30 jump in the price barrel from 2011, but has decreased by nearly $5 since 2012.
“I’m surprised that its super low, I’ve been travelling to Denver and the prices are a lot cheaper there than here in Laramie,” said Cassandra Chase, an Anthropology senior. Chase has been travelling a lot more for the past few weeks to Fort Collins, Denver, and soon to Gillette. “With the prices being so low I have been making more plans to travel too.”
Lindsey Koehler, a Petroleum Engineer senior, said “I don’t pay much attention to the oil prices since they fluctuate so much.” Being from Highlands Ranch, Colorado she travels there at least once a month. “I definitely will drive around town just to find the cheapest prices before I travel,” said Koehler. “The prices of oil fluctuate with supply and demand, so eventually the demand will increase and so will the prices,” said Koehler.
