Page Carries Cowgirls at Mountain West Championships

“To tie for the highest finish in program history is a huge step forward for this group and this program,” Berryhill said.

Senior Holly Page headlined Wyoming cross country’s historic day at the Mountain West Championships in Fresno, Calif.

Page raced to a time of 20:18, which earned her a third place finish. It was the highest finish ever by a Cowgirl at the Championships. In the process Page also garnered first team All-Mountain West accolades.

“Holly was amazing today,” head coach Bryan Berryhill said. “She looked very composed and within herself the whole race and I could not be prouder of her.”

Placing second for the Cowgirls and 11th overall in the six-kilometer race was freshman Kerry White. She crossed with a time of 20:53 and reeled in second team All-Mountain West honors.

Coming in third was junior Audra Stefano who ran a time of 21:03, which was good enough for 15th.

Placing fourth for Wyoming and 25th overall was sophomore Ali Walker who clocked in at 21:27.

Rounding out the Cowgirl scorers was sophomore Megan Brunette who finished 27th with a time of 21:33.

The Cowgirls as a team finished third which is tied for their highest finish ever at the Championships. They also recorded their best score ever at 79 points.

“To tie for the highest finish in program history is a huge step forward for this group and this program,” Berryhill said.

No. 10 New Mexico took home the conference title with a team score of 33. No. 23 Boise State placed second with 58 points.

“Two top-25 teams finished ahead of us so we are right on the heels of two of the best programs in the nation,” Berryhill said.

The Mountain West conference individual title went to Boise State’s senior Emma Bates who ran a 19:37. Taking home the silver with a time of 19:53 was another Bronco senior Marisa Howard.

Shifting to men’s side, Wyoming was paced by junior Amos Bowen who ran a time of 23:51. His ninth place finish claimed second team All-Mountain West honors.

Wyoming will now head to Albuquerque N.M. on Nov. 14 for the 2014 NCAA Mountain Regional Championships.

Coming in second for the Cowboys in the eight-kilometer race was junior Dylan Morin who placed 23rd with a time of 24:36.

Placing third for Wyoming and 44th overall was junior Aaron Derner who ran a time of 25:03.

Crossing fourth and 46th overall was sophomore Michael Kesy who clocked in at 25:06.

Rounding out the Cowboys scorers was junior Mike Seas who raced a time of 25:16, which earned him a 49th place finish.

Winning the conference title, by a large margin, was No. 18 New Mexico with a score of 26 points. Coming in second was Air Force with 73 points. Rounding out the top three was No. 25 Colorado State with 76 points.

First place Mountain West honors went to senior David Elliot of Boise State with a time of 23:38. Taking home the silver with a time of 23:41 was junior Patrick Corona of Air Force. Rounding out the top three was New Mexico senior Jake Shelly who ran a time of 23:43.

Wyoming will now head to Albuquerque N.M. on Nov. 14 for the 2014 NCAA Mountain Regional Championships.
