“The entire match was up and down with neither team really playing a close set. We’ve won a couple of close ones the last few matches, but you put yourself in that position too many times and it will eventually catch up with you. Give credit to San Diego State for playing hard the entire match.” head coach Chad Callihan said after the game.

Over the past Halloween weekend the Wyoming Cowgirls volleyball team split matches their record to 19-6 and 8-4 in Mountain West conference play.

The Cowgirls won the first match against UNLV in five sets (15-25, 25-18, 25-23, 20-25, 15-13) in Las Vegas. Wyoming had five players in double digit points. Sophomore Laura Beach led the Cowgirls in points with 18.5 and in kills with 15.

“We knew this coaching staff would have UNLV very prepared and we knew it would be a battle,” head coach Chad Callihan said. “We felt very comfortable tonight in a tight contest and we really kept our composure.”

The match opened will UNLV taking the first set with a score of 25-15 where UNLV had a 10-3 run to finish off the first set. Wyoming was able to tie up the match in the second set at 1-1 with a score of 25-18. The third set opened up with Wyoming having a 6-1 lead. UNLV was then able to make it close, but to only let Wyoming win it with a score of 25-23. In the fourth set UNLV were the ones to jump out to an early lead of 7-1. Wyoming went on a run of 7-3 to bring them within two, but like UNLV in the third set watched them win it and tie up the match. The fifth set ended in a UW win and a match win too.

The second match of the weekend would not end the same result as the UNLV match.  San Diego State beat the Cowgirls in five sets of (14-25, 25-15, 21-25, 25-19, 8-15). Junior Bridget Shanahan lead the Cowgirls in kills and in points and Junior Allison Waldvogel lead the team in kills with 28.

“The entire match was up and down with neither team really playing a close set. We’ve won a couple of close ones the last few matches, but you put yourself in that position too many times and it will eventually catch up with you. Give credit to San Diego State for playing hard the entire match.” head coach Chad Callihan said after the game.

The match began with the Aztecs taking the first set with a score of 25-14. Wyoming was able to answer back in the second set with a 7-4 lead and then a 14-8 lead.
