Emotional and spirited debate was on display on Wednesday as a special meeting was held at the bi-monthly City Council work session to discuss Orig. Ordinance No. 1900.
This ordinance is in regard to the rezoning of a church property from R1 to R3. A petition was filed from the neighborhood requiring a super majority in order to pass on its final reading. There was public opinion on both sides of the issue but ultimately the change passed with an 8-1 vote in favor of rezoning the property to R3.
In response to their verdict the majority of the council talked reexamining their policy on rezoning.
Other topics discussed at the meeting include:
- A presentation from ASUW Director of Governmental Affairs Chris Ryan
- A presentation regarding SLCE’s “The Big Event”
- A public hearing regarding Orig. Ordinance No. 1907, rezoning
