Reason For The Season

When I say the word “holidays” what things come to mind? Snow? Trees? Dinner? Pie?

How about family? The holiday seasons are about family. Always have been and seems like soon it won’t be.

I was running on the treadmill a couple days ago, when a news report came on the television. Target will now be open on Thursday for Black Friday sales. This is beyond immoral in my eyes. Why do these family members get to miss out on quality time with their family, just so shoppers can get a good deal on a bed?

Black Friday means Black FRIDAY! Sales start at 6 a.m. on Friday. This is the way it had been for the longest time, and that’s the way it should remain to be.

America, open your eyes. We are destroying this country. Not everything is about money, sometimes it’s about spending time with your loved ones.

When it comes to entertainment and food on the holidays, this should be a no go. Recreation centers, movie theaters and restaurants should not be opened on Thanksgiving Day.

As for recreational centers, parents use them for a babysitting resource when they are busy. I am sorry people, but spend time with your children. You can cook dinner with them at the house. Invite the cousins over a little early. You will have an extra set of hands in the kitchen, and a built in playmate for your children.

Need to go for a run? Guess what!

The world is your treadmill. This all boils down to, there is no need to keep recreational centers open on Thanksgiving Day.

Restaurants are another thing that really irk me.  Why are these poor people at work on Thanksgiving night serving you and your family food? Go home and cook your own damn food! If you can’t cook a Thanksgiving turkey, fix your family some macaroni and cheese and slap down some mashed potatoes. I’m sorry but the cooks around town are not your servants!

The essential services are a different story. Doctors, firefighters and policemen are essential to people’s well being. When those certain people took those jobs they knew that sickness, fires and crime didn’t take a holiday. The right to one’s safety and health is inalienable.

But again the right to shop is not.

The holidays are a time to be with your family and friends. Employers need to keep this in mind when thinking about sales, and regular work hours. Most of the time the supervisors aren’t even at work on the holidays, when the rest of the provisional employees are there working there asses off, just to keep their job.

So many things about the recent holiday seasons are so immoral. Let’s take a step back from all the money and presents and remember the reason for the season.

Family and friends are solely the most important things in this world. The time we have with them may be limited. Every employer should remember the humane thing to do during this time of the year and let their employees be with their families on holiday nights.

Now get off the computer, go have a nice turkey dinner with your family. And later make you and your grandma some tea and talk!
