Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but a local exhibit chooses to express that beauty in regards to gender and identity.
Since Nov. 17 Gallery 234 has been the host for the art exhibit Gender and Identity. Being held until Dec. 4, this exhibit features painting by Chloe West with a visual analysis review provided by Mariah West. Many of the works shown are representations of the male or female body and the visual style associated with the painting.
“When I was looking at the exhibit I noticed a little bit of myself in the art, a personal connection to the subject just based on their facial feature. It reminded me of times I had a similar reaction,” said junior David Anderbin. “I’ve always enjoyed looking at art because I believe it shows us a glimpse of the artist who created it. In the end I think just those few glimpses can make a multitude of emotions be felt by the audience they are trying to reach.”
The Gallery 234 is located in the Wyoming Union on the campus of the University of Wyoming in Laramie. The gallery is located in the lower level of the Union. Open Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm.
