From Teton National Park to the Alaska Range, “Higher” is a look into scenic and thrill seeking side of snowboarding.
The Student Activity Council played the movie “Higher” from Teton Gravity Research Wednesday night in the Union Ballroom. This movie stars Ryland Bell, Bryan Lguchi, Luca Pandolfi, and producer Jeremy Jones as they snowboard though many sites around the country.
“While continuing to produce award-winning films, we now connect with people across the world through our film tours, television series, merchandise, and website, which serves as a leading destination and community for action sports content,” said Erin Akinson, a representive of Teton Gravity Research. “The brand partners with many of the world’s top athletes such as Jeremy Jones, Sage Cattabriga-Alosa, Ian Walsh, and Angel Collinson, to help push boundaries and reimagine what is possible.”
With a commitment to showcasing the world’s top athletes and creating a company driven by their input, the group founded Teton Gravity Research. From its headquarters in Jackson Hole, Wyo. the Teton Gravity Research began producing premier ski, snowboard, and surf films. Eighteen years and 32 films later, the company continues to evolve. Transcending film, TGR, has emerged as a media force in action sports culture according to tetongravity.com.
This is the third instalment in Jones’ movies. The other two pieces are called “Deeper” that premiered in 2010 and followed by “Further” that came out in 2012. Both these movies focused on backcountry snowboarding.
Many students and the public alike who have an interest in winter sports filled the Union Ballroom to watch the film and find a renewed sense of excitement with the sport.
“I like to think of myself as an avid snowboarder, so when I heard a Snowboarding film was going to be played I wasn’t going to miss it,” said Freshman Kyle Swigger. “Watching the movie and getting to see all of the beauty surrounding snowboarding and the places they went only made me want to go out and snowboard even more.”
“Higher” is in the midst of a worldwide film tour with over 200 stops. It is an official selection of the 62nd San Sebastian Film Festival, and is currently a Finalist for Best Film at the 2014 Banff International Mountain Film Festival.
