National parks and national monuments are waiving all fees for the coming weekend in observance of President’s Day.
National parks all around the United States are allowing people entering the parks by car, RV, bus, snowmobile or other means at no charge from February 14-16.
For UW students this presents an affordable opportunity to explore the Wyoming wilderness.
“One of the best things about Wyoming is the wildlife and the Outdoors. That is why I chose to go here. Wyoming is such a beautiful state and I love the university because there is so much opportunity to be outdoors and experience nature,” Ken Dexter, a sophomore majoring in natural science said.
In Wyoming and Colorado there are 27 recognized national parks or monuments with some of the more notable attractions being Yellowstone National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Devil’s Tower National Monument, Mesa Verde National Park and Grand Teton National Park.
Only 133 of the 405 national parks usually charge an entrance fee. The other days national parks waive the admission fees this year are April 18-19 (opening weekend of National Park Week), August 25, September 26 (National Public Lands Day) and November 11 (Veteran’s Day).
