Yesterday I was the special guest on the Branding Iron sports podcast. To be honest I was nervous. But more than anything I was surprised. I had a blast.
It was three guys: sports editor Matt Fabian, sports writer John Fabian and news editor Adam croft, letting their guard down to talk about something they’re passionate about. They opened up, laughed and teased each other in ways I never would have guessed from seeing them in the newsroom. There was a great deal to say about if Kentucky will win the NCAA tournament, who the Nuggets will trade and just how amazing of a shooter Kayla Woodward is.
I was excited to see how the Cowboys would do, and am proud to see our 64-58 win over Nevada last night.
The guys are hoping for a powerful post season and all agreed that an appearance in the NCAA tournament would be better than winning the NIT. Either way I’ve been told to bust out my game day gold.
I was amazed they could remember the names of players and their stats. Matt forgot the name of one coach and the guys gave him a hard time. John told me they’re all nerds, but that’s the secret to life: we’re all nerds about something.
I may have felt a little lost when it came to the NBA draft, but they were quick to make sure to include me. It turns out picking a player involves many complex conspiracy theories.
The sports cast pushed my comfort zone, but it was worth the risk. Who knows, if I get my NCAA tournament predictions up and running I may be a guest again.
