Greek life took the stage at the Arena Auditorium last night as Wyoming men’s basketball team faced mountain west opponent Fresno State. The sorority and fraternity themed night was introduced to bring a larger influx of fans and to create a better atmosphere inside the arena.
University of Wyoming student and President of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Clayton Dexter said, “Greek night was created mutually by Greek life and the Wyoming athletic department last semester to create bigger turnouts and make for more energetic fans.”
Greek night at the Arena Auditorium challenges the Greek chapters at the University of Wyoming to have the highest percentage of attendance for the basketball game. Whichever chapter accomplishes the highest percentage of active members in attendance receives $500. The creation of the Greek life themed basketball game reinforces the fact that Wyoming has been battling with the constant struggle to bring more fans to Wyoming basketball games, as reiterated by Larry Shyatt and his press conferences. Although Greek night mostly brought higher numbers of fans for the basketball team, it also benefited Greek life at Wyoming as well.
“Greek students are known to be boisterous and energetic, Greek life was a perfect candidate to bring big game stigma to the court,” Dexter said.
The massive participation from all corners of Greek life proved to fans that sororities and fraternities in Wyoming are dedicated and passionate to the school they attend.
