Tech Time: Three Tools for Dinnertime

Appetites: Sometimes even the best Food Network show is too hard for people to follow. As such, when nothing short of a step-by-step video will do, this application may be the perfect tool to fill some people’s culinary holes. Appetites comes with hundreds of recipes paired with videos shot from the chef’s perspective. Using this technique, obstructions preventing aspiring chefs from seeing exactly how each step is done are eliminated. The Appetites app is available for $4.99 in the iOS App Store.

Supercook: For those looking to cook dinner, but have no idea what to make with the hodgepodge in the pantry, Supercook may be the night’s saving grace. Supercook.com allows its visitors to enter the ingredients they have on hand. From there, the website spits out a list of recipes tailored around those available ingredients. This way, users do not have to head down to the supermarket just to pick up the only ingredient they did not happen to have in the fridge.

Substitutions: Sometimes one of the ingredients in a recipe is just not acceptable. Regardless of the reason, Substitutions aims to provide the right alternate ingredient for the situation. Allowing users to search for substitute ingredients based on allergies, gluten content, vegan status and many more, the application presents users with alternative foodstuffs to suit their needs while still making use of their favorite recipes. Substitutes is available for $1.99 in the iOS App Store.
