The Wyoming Cowboys men’s basketball team beat Utah State 67-65 and is heading to the Mountain West tournament semifinals to face Boise State.
Junior guard Josh Adams led all scorers with 19 points. Adams also led the team in assists with six. He was even trending nationwide at one point during the game.
Senior guard Charles Hankerson Jr. had 16 points and five rebounds as the Cowboys second leading scorer. Four of the Wyoming starters were in double digits in points.
It was a close game throughout. At half time the score was tied at 41. Each team had runs of eight points in the first. Hankerson hit two 3-pointers in the half which also contributed to Wyoming’s run.
The second half began with the Cowboys going on an 8-3 run. Utah State was able to come back and tie the score with the Pokes at 51. Senior guard Riley Grabau was able to stop Utah State’s run with a three ball. Wyoming built its lead back up to 60-53.
Wyoming had a 64-59 with 31.6 second left in the game. Utah State went on a 6-3 run at the end of the game, but could not pull it out in the end. Wyoming won 67-65.
Wyoming shot 48.1 percent from the field, while the Aggies shot 44.2 percent. Utah State made 10 three-pointers with five of them coming in the second half.
Wyoming made three of their three-pointers in the second half. The rebounding and assists were a draw, as both teams got 31 rebounds and 13 assists.
Wyoming’s game against the Broncos will be tonight at 7 P.M. at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
